With this project, Nicolas Büchi will curate the work of the Hong Kong based artist group TRILATERAL LAB for the first time in Europe. It will result in an space-filling installation in Zurich. Within this installation, Berlin-based artist Sergej Vutuc will pickup the composition, rework, remix and reunderstand the original artwork.
The goal is to find a new and widely interesting way to curate audial composition, visual choreography and give performance artists unusual source material to work on. Through this collaboration, between the original artwork by the Hong Kong based artists and the reperformancing of European based artists, the concept of sheer geographical distance, which results in cultural and sometimes artistic difference, will be rethinked and restructured.
TRILATERAL LAB is widely led by Alain Chiu and Max Lee. The performance will be recorded mid-April 2019 on site in Hong Kong. The intent is to capture this collaborative performance of composition and choreography with two cameras with wide angle lenses. This is important, as the installation will be screened on a total field of view of 180 degrees. The audio will be in full 3D recorded, to provide the best possible quality for the Zurich screening.
Artists
Trilateral Lab is an experimental performance collective with the aim to challenge the existing form and structure of performing arts. The Lab’s mission is to create an environment where all artists are free to explore new ways and practices for cross-discipline artists to work collaboratively. Instead of surviving under dreadful production schedules, Trilateral Lab is more interested in the unexpected collision and discoveries via creative experimentation and explosive collaboration.
Trilateral Lab’s past performances include Have You Seen Those Lines? (2014) a site-specific work at Hong Kong’s legendary hideout Sense 99; providing artistic support for Alain Chiu’s new media opera Fish in the Hand (2015); Still Life (2016) at Hong Kong Arts Centre; Never Seen (2017) premiered at Adelaide Fringe Festival and Transience (2017) a 360 video. The Lab also co-hosts a bi-weekly classical music event at the iconic bar Sense 99.
Founded by classically trained composer Alain Chiu, Trilateral Lab consists of multimedia artists, composers, sound artists, choreographers, dramaturge, actors as well as professionals from different backgrounds. The Lab is also dedicated to incorporating new technologies, as a way to stimulate and cultivate new ideas.

Nicolas Büchi wird mit diesem Projekt das Werk der in Hongkong ansässigen Künstlergruppe TRILATERAL LAB erstmals in Europa zeigen. In Zürich wird eine raumfüllende Installation zu sehen sein. Der in Berlin lebende Künstler Sergej Vutuc wird in dieser Installation eine Komposition aufgreifen, überarbeiten, remixen und das ursprüngliche Kunstwerk neu verstehen.
Ziel ist es, einen neuen und interessanten Weg zu finden, um auditive Komposition, visuelle Choreographie zu kuratieren und Performance-Künstler*innen ungewöhnliches Ausgangsmaterial zur Verfügung zu stellen. Durch diese Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Original-Kunstwerk der in Hongkong ansässigen Künstler und der Repräsentation von in Europa ansässigen Künstlern wird das Konzept der schieren geographischen Distanz, das zu kulturellen und manchmal künstlerischen Unterschieden führt, überdacht und neu strukturiert.
Das TRILATERAL LAB wird weitgehend von Alain Chiu und Max Lee geleitet. Die Performance ist Mitte April 2019 vor Ort in Hongkong aufgezeichnet. Ziel ist es, diese gemeinsame Performance von Komposition und Choreographie mit zwei Kameras mit Weitwinkelobjektiven festzuhalten. Die Installation wird auf einem gesamten Sichtfeld von 180 Grad sichtbar sein. Der Ton wird in 3D aufgezeichnet, um die bestmögliche Qualität für das Zürcher Screening zu gewährleisten.
Künstler
Trilateral Lab ist ein experimentelles Performance-Kollektiv mit dem Ziel, die bestehende Form und Struktur der darstellenden Kunst in Frage zu stellen. Die Mission des Labors ist es, eine Umgebung zu schaffen, in der alle Künstler*innen frei sind, neue Wege und Praktiken zu erforschen, damit disziplinübergreifende Künstler*innen gemeinsam arbeiten können. Anstatt an schreckliche Produktionspläne gebunden zu sein, ist das Trilateral Lab mehr an den unerwarteten Kollisionen und Entdeckungen durch kreatives Experimentieren und überraschende Zusammenarbeit interessiert.
Zu den vergangenen Auftritten des Trilateral Lab gehören: Have You Seen Those Lines? (2014) ein ortsspezifisches Werk in Hongkongs legendärem Versteck Sense 99; künstlerische Unterstützung für Alain Chius Oper Fish in the Hand (2015); Still Life (2016) im Hong Kong Arts Centre; Never Seen (2017) wurde beim Adelaide Fringe Festival und Transience (2017) in einem 360er Video uraufgeführt. Das Labor veranstaltet auch ein zweiwöchentliches klassisches Musik-Event in der berühmten Bar Sense 99.
Das Trilateral Lab wurde von dem klassisch ausgebildeten Komponisten Alain Chiu gegründet und besteht aus Multimedia-Künstler*innen, Komponist*innen, Klangkünstler*innen, Choreograph*innen, Dramaturg*innen, Schauspieler*innen und Profis unterschiedlicher Herkunft. Das Labor widmet sich auch der Integration neuer Technologien, um neue Ideen zu stimulieren und zu pflegen.
