The new issue of OnCurating journal Issue 48 „The Zurich Issue, Dark Matter, Grey Zones, Red light and Bling Bling“ seeks to tackle the strategies of diverse initiatives, from off spaces to established galleries and institutions in Zurich. How is this lively art scene subsidized, and how are the internal connections constructed? What kind of art and which curatorial concepts are supported by the City of Zurich and the Canton? The issue tries to unfold the vibrant art scene of Zurich while at the same time analyzing the working conditions of artists, curators and other cultural producers in the field. The roundtable is part of the ongoing discursive series I might be wrong, and will tackle the points raised in the journal by inviting actors from various organisations and positions within the Zurich contemporary art scene.
I might be wrong is an explorative series of events and conversations that seeks to embrace the topics of challenges as learning curves and experimentations. The events are shaped to set a safe and nonhierarchical environment and thrive for the collective sharing of alternative ways of knowledge production.
al_vista is a student-run exhibition space by the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and its Department of Fine Arts. In 2020 Kim Anni Bassen, Aramis Navarro and Lourenço Soares Penaguiao invite artists to show their work in the space, located next to Club Zukunft and Bar 3000 at Langstrasse in Zurich, an area of gentrification and diverse cultural entanglements, visible to passers-by and party-goers. In a promiscuous relationship with window shops, cars and people, al_vista is interested in different artistic practices that engage with the ambiguous character of its place. www.al-vista.ch
Kristina Grigorjeva is an architect and independent curator and has been a curator of BINZ39 Stiftung since 2019. Located in the heart of Zurich, BINZ39 Stiftung is the initiator and sponsor of an extensive program of studio stays, exchange programs, exhibitions, interdisciplinary events and contact networks of artists and cultural workers in Zurich, Switzerland and abroad. Its basic principle is to offer space for the artistic process. The BINZ39 Stiftung primarily dealt with the artistic visual language, but also supported interdisciplinary work between the various art disciplines. www.binz39.ch
Christian Schmid is a geographer, sociologist and urban researcher. Since 1980, he has been also active as a video activist and organizer of cultural events. He is Titular Professor of Sociology at the Department of Architecture, ETH Zurich, and Researcher at ETH Studio Basel/Contemporary City Institute.

Die neue Ausgabe der Zeitschrift OnCurating Ausgabe 48 „The Zurich Issue, Dark Matter, Grey Zones, Red light and Bling Bling“ beleuchtet die Strategien verschiedener Initiativen, Off-Spaces bis hin zu etablierten Galerien und Institutionen in Zürich. Wie wird diese lebendige Kunstszene subventioniert, und wie sind die internen Verbindungen aufgebaut? Welche Kunst und welche kuratorischen Konzepte werden von der Stadt Zürich und dem Kanton Zürich unterstützt? Die Ausgabe versucht, die lebendige Kunstszene Zürichs zu einzufangen und gleichzeitig die Arbeitsbedingungen von Künstlerinnen und Künstlern, Kuratorinnen und Kuratoren sowie anderen Kulturschaffenden in diesem Bereich zu analysieren. Das Roundtablegespräch ist Teil der laufenden diskursiven Reihe I might be wrong, und wird die in der Zeitschrift angesprochenen Punkte aufgreifen, indem Akteure aus verschiedenen Organisationen und Positionen der zeitgenössischen Kunstszene Zürichs eingeladen werden.
I might be wrong ist eine explorative Reihe von Veranstaltungen und Gesprächen, die versucht, die Themen der Herausforderungen als Lernkurven und Experimente aufzugreifen. Die Veranstaltungen sind so gestaltet, dass sie ein sicheres und nichthierarchisches Umfeld schaffen und den kollektiven Austausch über alternative Wege der Wissensproduktion fördern.
