Hunter Longe will present Clam Hole Hag Stone Portal, a multi-media performance, rich in oneiric symbolism, that takes its departure from a hag stone (a small rock with a hole through it, „Hühnergott“ in German or „pierre sorcière“ in French) found on a beach in northern California. What begins as a story, both personal and ancient, devolves into a poem, looping back and forth from the Archean eon to the present. As the narrative erodes, various stones and sculptures are placed about the exhibition space. From this movement, a map is drawn that in turn becomes a score for the soundtrack, weaving a tangled path, conjuring spirals and mixing up the living, the dead, and the mineral.
Hunter Longe works in a range of mediums on pieces inspired by the properties and transformations of the materials they employ. By appropriating stories and apparatuses from the sciences and conflating them with the esoteric and folkloric, Longe’s works undo the distinctions between the living and the non-living and allude to an underlying sentience that far exceeds the human realm.
Originally from California (b. 1985) Hunter Longe currently lives and works in Geneva, Switzerland. He has Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of the Arts (San Francisco, US) and a Master of Fine Arts from the Piet Zwart Institute (Rotterdam, NL). Recent group and solo exhibitions have been at Smallville (Neuchatel CH), the Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (Geneva, CH), PACE Gallery (Geneva, CH), Musée Cantonal de Geologie (Lausanne, CH), NoMoon (New York, US), Et al. Gallery (San Francisco, US), LambdaLambdaLambda (Pristina, XK), Hordaland Kunstsenter (Bergen, NO), W139 (Amsterdam, NL), One Gee in Fog (Geneva, CH), Galerie der HFBK (Hamburg, DE), Swimming Pool Projects (Sofia, BG). He has been an artist in residence at Achterhaus (Hamburg, DE), Kunsthalle Roveredo (Roveredo, CH) and Flaggfabrikken, (Bergen, NO). DreamOre, a book of his writing and drawings was recently published by Coda Press (Bergen, NO), and he is a winner of the 2021 Swiss Art Awards.

Hunter Longe präsentiert Clam Hole Hag Stone Portal, eine Multimedia-Performance, die reich an oneirischer Symbolik ist und einen Hühnerstein (ein kleiner Stein mit einem Loch, „Hühnergott“ auf Deutsch oder „pierre sorcière“ auf Französisch) zum Ausgangspunkt nimmt, der an einem Strand in Nordkalifornien gefunden wurde. Was wie eine persönliche und zugleich uralte Geschichte beginnt, entwickelt sich zu einem Gedicht, das vom Archaikum bis in die Gegenwart reicht. Während die Erzählung erodiert, werden verschiedene Steine und Skulpturen im Ausstellungsraum platziert. Aus dieser Bewegung wird eine Landkarte gezeichnet, die wiederum zur Partitur für den Soundtrack wird, der einen verschlungenen Pfad webt, Spiralen heraufbeschwört und die Lebenden, die Toten und die Mineralien vermischt.
Hunter Longe arbeitet mit einer Reihe von Medien an Werken, die von den Eigenschaften und Transformationen der verwendeten Materialien inspiriert sind. Indem er sich Geschichten und Apparate aus der Wissenschaft aneignet und sie mit dem Esoterischen und Folkloristischen verbindet, heben Longes Werke die Unterscheidungen zwischen dem Lebendigen und dem Nicht-Lebendigen auf und verweisen auf eine zugrunde liegende Empfindsamkeit, die weit über den menschlichen Bereich hinausgeht.

Jüngste Gruppen- und Einzelausstellungen fanden in Smallville (Neuchatel, CH), dem Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (Genf, CH), der Galerie PACE (Genf, CH), dem Musée Cantonal de Geologie (Lausanne, CH), NoMoon (New York, US), Et al. Gallery (San Francisco, US), LambdaLambdaLambda (Pristina, XK), Hordaland Kunstsenter (Bergen, NO), W139 (Amsterdam, NL), One Gee in Fog (Genf, CH), Galerie der HFBK (Hamburg, DE), Swimming Pool Projects (Sofia, BG).
