We are happy to invite you to the book launch of TRUST, the first monograph of the artists‘ collective U5. The texts of the artist and art critic Christian Egger, the art historian Nina Zschocke and the cultural scientist and curator Helene Romakin, who deal with the importance of collaborative practice and authorship, digitality and material aesthetics, form the art-theoretical framework for the collective work of U5.
The collective’s artistic methods and strategies have shaped and guided the publication’s graphic dimension, just as the texts published here were written in direct reaction to the artistic practice of U5. Following this approach, associative and simultaneous thinking was central in the creation process of this book (cf. Helene Romakin in conversation with U5, TRUST, p.19).
You will also have the chance to take a glance at U5s #flagged series. Accompanied by music you can try U5s signature drink Dengue Sling, which changes color as it is consumed. It was intended as an alternative to the colonialist signature drink (the Singapore Sling). Be aware that a little surprise awaits you with every drink. All you have to do is TRUST us.
U5 is an arts collective that is opposed to traditional notions of individual authorship. U5 actively pursues historical and contemporary approaches to research in art, especially approaches that transcend disciplines, or produce new forms of art and knowledge.

Helene Romakin is a cultural scientist, curator, writer, and editor based in Berlin and Zurich. In her work Romakin focuses on practices of artistic research, situated knowledges, and role of fiction in academic writing.

Wir freuen uns, zur Buchpräsentation von TRUST, der ersten Monografie des Künstlerkollektivs U5, einzuladen. Die Texte des Künstlers und Kunstkritikers Christian Egger, der Kunsthistorikerin Nina Zschocke und der Kulturwissenschaftlerin und Kuratorin Helene Romakin, die sich mit der Bedeutung von kollaborativer Praxis und Autorschaft, Digitalität und Materialästhetik beschäftigen, bilden den kunsttheoretischen Rahmen für die kollektive Arbeit von U5.
Die künstlerischen Methoden und Strategien des Kollektivs prägten und leiteten die grafische Dimension der Publikation und die veröffentlichten Texte entstanden in direkter Reaktion auf die künstlerische Praxis von U5. Diesem Ansatz folgend war assoziatives und simultanes Denken zentral im Entstehungsprozess dieses Buches (vgl. Helene Romakin im Gespräch mit U5, TRUST, S.19).
Ausserdem zeigen wir an diesem Abend eine Auswahl an Werken aus der #flagged-Serie. Zu Musik können wir den von U5 kreierten Cocktail Dengue Sling probieren, der seine Farbe verändert, wenn er getrunken wird. Der Drink wurde als Alternative zum kolonialen Singapore Sling konzipiert. Mit jedem Getränk erwartet dich eine kleine Überraschung. Alles was du tun musst, ist uns zu vertrauen („TRUST us“).
U5 ist ein Kunstkollektiv, das sich gegen die traditionelle Vorstellung von individueller Autorenschaft wendet. U5 verfolgt aktiv historische und zeitgenössische Forschungsansätze in der Kunst, insbesondere solche, die Disziplinen überschreiten oder neue Formen von Kunst und Wissen hervorbringen.

Helene Romakin ist Kulturwissenschaftlerin, Kuratorin, Autorin und Herausgeberin und lebt in Berlin und Zürich. In ihrer Arbeit konzentriert sich Romakin auf Praktiken der künstlerischen Forschung, situiertes Wissen und die Rolle der Fiktion im akademischen Schreiben.
