Alien Lifeforms in Black Science Fiction
Exploring the future of knowledge through Black Music and Pop Culture
“A devastating nuclear war has erased nearly all life on earth. Just in the darkest hour of humanity earth is discovered by a far advanced alien species called Oankali. A knowledge seeking tribe that wants to breed with humankind to widen their gene pool. The appearance of the friendly colonizers is forcing homo sapiens into an unfamiliar role.”
Octavia Butler’s groundbreaking Xenogenesis Trilogy introduces an unprecedented future of knowledge. Together we will abstract learnings, exchange opinions and free our minds from the fetters of earthly thinking. Being already introduced to the literary universe of Octavia Butler we are going to examine afrofuturistic musical achievements and discuss the knowledge legacy between P-Funk and Techno.
David Zabel, CULTURAL EDUCATOR, PUBLIC SPEAKER, CURATOR, NETWORK MEDIATOR, develops educational content that reflects on activism,pop culture, sports and his ownmigration story. He explores new ways of connecting and shifting perspectives. He is Freelancer at Cultural Ministry of Hesse and Boardmember Randfilm e.V.
The Last Angel Of History (1996)
John Akomfrah’s documentary breaks with the understanding of documentaries itself to begin with. In a half fictional setting a Data Thief travels through time and space to delve into Black cultural roots.

David Zabel, KULTURERZIEHER, PUBLIKANT, KURATOR, NETZWERK-VERMITTLER, entwickelt Bildungsinhalte, die sich mit Aktivismus, Popkultur, Sport und seiner eigenen Migrationsgeschichte befassen. Er erforscht neue Wege der Verbindung und des Perspektivwechsels. Er ist freier Mitarbeiter des Hessischen Kultusministeriums und Vorstandsmitglied von Randfilm e.V.
The Last Angel Of History (1996)
John Akomfrahs Dokumentarfilm bricht mit dem Verständnis des Dokumentarfilms an sich, um mit ihm zu beginnen. In einem halbfiktiven Setting reist ein Datendieb durch Zeit und Raum, um die kulturellen Wurzeln der Schwarzen zu ergründen.
Nachdem wir bereits in das literarische Universum von Octavia Butler eingeführt wurden, werden wir nun afrofuturistische musikalische Errungenschaften untersuchen und das Wissenserbe zwischen P-Funk und Techno diskutieren.
